Sifu Chen Ying has always expressed an interest in the fighting arts. Even at the age of 8 he studied Wu Shu (martial arts) diagrams and mimicked their movements. At age 10 he went to the local martial arts school to study. For two years the instructor taught Chen Ying various forms such as Long Zu Zhuang (Dragon Tiger Post), Shao Lin Di Long Quan (Shao Lin Earth Dragon Fist), Wu Zu Quan (Five Ancestors Fist), etc. Afterwards Chen Ying participated in a province wide sports competition for middle school students. He took first place in the 100-meter dash and high jump. He was awarded the All-Around Conference Champion Trophy.
At that time Coach
Li Jian Long, former team member and coach of the Fu Jian Province Wu Shu Team, discovered Chen Ying. Coach Li put Chen Ying through a rigorous Wu Shu basic training program and after just one year Chen Ying was accepted into the city Wu Shu team.Sifu Chen Ying demonstrated an exceptional talent for Wu Shu. He proved to be insightful and quickly far outstripped those around him in his progress and skill. He participated in local, regional and national competitions and always received high scores. In 1980, the Fu Jian Physical Education College accepted Chen Ying into the 4 years Wu Shu program. At the same time Master Chen taught Wu Shu at many local schools, accumulating extensive teaching experience.
After completing his degree Coach Li introduced Sifu Chen to the famous Wu Shu master
Wan Lai Shen, lineage holder of the Zi Ran Men (Natural Style)and the Shao Lin Liu He Men (Shao Lin Six Harmony Style) fighting arts. Wan Lai Shen accepted Chen Ying as his disciple and personally guided Chen Ying through 6 years of bitter training in Shao Lin Liu He Men, Zi Ran Men, Luo Han Shen Da (Luo Han Spirit Fighting) and Shao Lin Gen Ji Gong Fu (Shao Lin Basic Gong Fu). Master Chen systematically mastered the open fist forms, weapons forms, dui lian (two man) forms etc. Towards Zi Ran Men, Nei Gong (Internal Practice), Luo Han Shen Da and the finer points of fighting Master Chen Ying uniquely grasped their rich meaning. In 1990, Sifu Chen migrated to Tokyo, Japan to teach and study martial arts. In 1994 he moved once again to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1996, the Shao Lin monk Shi Yan Ming invited Master Chen to the New York Shao Lin temple to teach modern Wu Shu. In 1997 Master Chen started his own martial arts academy in New York City which he still runs to this day. He teaches contemporary Wu Shu and traditional Shao Lin Liu He Men. His students have received high scores in numerous National and International Wu Shu competitions. One student in particular has been accepted to the U.S. Wu Shu Team and will be competing this October in the 6th World Wide Wu Shu Competition. Because of Master Chen's comprehensive teaching experience many of his students have a rather high level of skill and are often invited to perform and demonstrate their skills at various functions in the Greater New York area. Among Sifu Chen Ying's students some have won perstigious Wu Shu Competitions and are involved in famous performances such as Cirque Du Soliel.
