
To execute the resting stance is pretty simple. First, like with most other stances place one leg forward (leading leg) and leave the other behind you (rear leg) and make sure your legs are about shoulder width apart In this case, my right leg is in the front as shown in the picture above.
First thing I did was I turned my front foot outward to my right (pivoting on the heel is best) so that my front leg and foot form a 90 degree angle (kind of like a reverse L shape) looking at it from the front.
I then bent the front leg enough so that I can sit on the rear leg comfortably. The trick is that before you sit, you tuck the left knee under the right knee and then you sit, but not so that your butt touches your heel. Your butt should never touch your heel. You should be on the toes of the back leg as well. A punch is usually accompanied with this stance when practicing basics.

Tip: Remember, for this stance first you open your legs, turn the front foot, tuck your knees, and then sit.
